The exhibition at Anhui Art Museum marks the second iteration of Mountains Without End, presenting a focused selection of more than thirty late works by Shi Hu. It features the first public presentation of Inscription of Fuxi’s Pattern, an eighteen-meter-long scroll painting that serves as a central visual and conceptual anchor.
These works were created during the final decade of the artist’s life, in a period of near-total seclusion in a remote Hakka village in Heyuan, Guangdong Province. Working in solitude, Shi Hu deepened his engagement with brushwork, symbolism, and the cosmological structures of classical Chinese painting. His materials remained consistent, using mineral pigment, ink and paper, while the scale and emotional intensity of the compositions reached new heights.
The works are displayed with generous spacing throughout the galleries, encouraging intimate engagement with each piece. Mountains Without End in Hefei offers a rare perspective on Shi Hu’s final years, where painting becomes not only a form of cultural reflection but also a deeply personal and spiritual journey.
